Due to the inherent social stigma
associated to the disease the patient does not usually divulge the true nature
of his condition. Hitherto, Piles was considered to be a problem
for the affected individual due to his proverbial irritability and idiosyncrasy and
was at best a source of nuisance to his family members and immediate neighbors.
It is with the intention of attracting
the attention of national leaders to the magnitude of this grave national problem that we
undertook the conduct of free Piles camps in Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Chic Mangalore,
Goni Kopal, Madras etc. with the help of various service organisations like Jains Club,
Lions Club and Rotary Club .
The camp conducted in December 1985 at
Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka, is unique in the history of medicine as nobody had ever
conducted a camp for Piles on such a vast scale any where in the world. More than five
hundred Piles patients were examined and treated free. Moreover, in December 1986 we
conducted a second follow-up camp to see whether every body treated at the first camp was
cured of the disease. In 1987, we conducted a camp in Bangalore, where more than 1000
Piles Patients were treated free. And in 1989 a follow-up camp was conducted to make sure
that all patients treated in the first camp were happy and free of the disease. In 1990 we
conducted a camp in Madras, where more than 1400 Piles patients were treated free.
We are offering concessional or free treatment for the financially weak and poor patients.
